When you're a business owner, there are several "key" problems with giving your staff physical keys to your buildings and offices:
- People can forget their keys at home
- People can lose keys
- People can make copies of keys
- Terminated staff cannot be compelled to return their keys.
- You cannot tell who used a key
The solution to all of these problems is a UniFi door access system.
With a door access system, you add electronic badge readers and electric
locks to your most important exterior and interior doors. Employees,
visitors, and guests are given electronic access cards for the badge
readers to scan. In addition to the credit-card sized cards, you can also
issue them electronic tags that come in a variety of shapes like
bracelets and key fobs. Each card or tag is assigned to a specific
person, and a person can also have more than one access device.
A number of benefits come with installing one of these systems. If an
employee has forgotten their keycard at home, you can use your phone to
remotely let them in. If a worker has lost a keycard, you can deactivate
it and give him a new one very cheaply. It is impossible to make copies
of electronic door access keycards, so you don't need to worry
about who's getting them. Even if an unauthorized person gets a keycard,
it is a trivial matter to turn that card off, so that they can't get in.
Electronic door readers will keep track of everyone who tries to use a
card on them, so you know who was trying to get where, when. On top of
that, it is quite simple to cross check these data with recorded
camera footage.
In addition to solving those problems, electronic door readers will open
up new possibilities, letting you create automatic lock schedules, set
policies to only let certain people in to certain rooms at certain
times, and remotely check and lock doors that were forgotten, right from
your phone. You can also set times to have your building open to provide
limited-time access to visitors, guests, or contractors.
